What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are surgically placed posts made of zirconia, ceramic, or titanium that support a custom crown, bridge, or denture so that you can smile with greater confidence. Their placement within the jawbone establishes a solid foundation that can last for decades. You’ll enjoy being able to eat with a stronger bite force, speak without slurring your words, and embrace new opportunities with a smile that makes a lasting impression.
The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

- Initial Consultation: Your first visit with Dr. DeShetler will include him discussing your goals and concerns before determining whether your oral and overall health and your jawbone density are sufficient for dental implant surgery. He will use a CT/cone beam scanner to evaluate your bone and oral health to ensure the appropriate next steps.
- Dental Implant Surgery: You will receive local anesthesia to numb your mouth before the procedure begins. Using computer-guided dental implant technology and a 3D printed surgical guide, your implant dentist in Marietta will place each post in its designated spot.
- Osseointegration/Abutments: After surgery, you will recover at home, allowing osseointegration to take place. This process of the implants fusing with the bone can take three to six months. Once you’re adequately healed, we will place abutments over each post to help secure your restoration once it is applied.
- Delivery of Your Restoration: Once Dr. DeShetler reviews your new restoration, he will carefully secure it in place so that you can begin to experience life with a healthier, fully rebuilt smile.
